Lexham Press publishes books that love the word, love the faith,

We are seeking a full-time acquisitions and development editor to advance our vision and mission by acquiring, commissioning, and developing new titles that promote our editorial stance and deepen our publishing portfolio, especially in the Bible reference and Biblical Studies categories.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary series (EEC) and the Evangelical Biblical Theology Commentary series (EBTC)
  • Acquire and shepherd books through the editorial process, from proposal to publication, for Lexham Press (12 titles acquired per year, 12 titles shepherded per year)
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals and manuscripts (this includes originating ideas for books that should exist but don’t and finding the right author)
  • Build and sustain author relationships
  • Negotiate author and agent contracts
  • Provide developmental guidance to authors to improve their manuscripts
  • Work with editorial colleagues during copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on titles, covers, and marketing copy

Requirements

  • PhD (candidate) in Biblical Studies
  • Experience performing acquisitions and development editorial work
  • Extensive knowledge of the setting and situation of contemporary Christianity
  • Working knowledge of church history and theology
  • Proficient in Koine Greek and Biblical Hebrew
  • Working knowledge of German and French
  • Proven capabilities for networking
  • Strong, professional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Self-starter who meets deadlines and manages schedules and details
