Dear IBR Colleagues,
Great things are taking place in IBR these days, both in our Annual Meeting program, as well as in our publications. Let me share a few with you.
As an affiliate of SBL, our program is published this year in the SBL program book. We remain 100% in charge of our own meetings, but now can alert a broader audience to our meetings which may attract others committed to our evangelical tradition to become a part of our community.
We welcome Bishop N.T. (Tom) Wright as our Friday plenary speaker, and the respondent, Michael Bird. Our Saturday programs are also very interesting and will encourage your scholarship. Thanks to Craig Keener and Tremper Longman for a great job putting all of this together for us.
Two new IBR projects are underway! Rick Hess and Bill Arnold are co-editing a volume provisionally titled Foundations for a History of Israel, to be published by Baker Academic. Similarly, Joel Green and I are co-editing a volume provisionally titled: The Background of the New Testament: An Examination of the Context of Early Christianity that will involve many IBR members.
Several new additions to the IBR website are now available. They include posting member’s current publications; I am very impressed with the excellent contributions to biblical inquiry by our members. Additionally, our website posts, free of charge, institutional openings in biblical studies. Ken Litwak, our IBR board member in charge of the web reports in this Newsletter how to access these helpful member services.
Finally, in our business meeting we will ask your permission to continue as life-time members our retired members who have been in the IBR for twenty or more years. To activate that, all they (or you) have to do is contact us and let us know their interest. We hope in this way to alleviate any financial hardship the dues may pose to our retired members. We want to continue a cherished relationship with those who have passed the torch on to us and have encouraged us in our professional journeys. Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.

The IBR: Fostering Evangelical Biblical Scholarship
IBR has, for over thirty years, offered to evangelical biblical scholars and Ph.D. students a venue for creative, reflective, and serious biblical scholarship. Its members are specialists in Old and New Testament and ancillary disciplines who seek to foster excellence in the pursuit of Biblical Studies in a faith environment.
The achievement of this goal is sought primarily by organizing annual conferences, conducting seminars and workshops, and by sponsoring academic publications in the various fields of biblical research. The Bulletin for Biblical Research was first published in 1991, and the BBR Supplement Series began in 2007.

The login/password database enables members to update their own contact information and post their recent publications. Access to the secure, password protected environment provides updated information throughout the year.
Log in to www.ibr-bbr.org and click on the “Login” link in the upper left corner. To receive a password, click on “I forgot my login,” enter your email address and a password will be emailed to you.
Several communications have been sent to members via email. If you want to receive these email messages, please be sure that your email address is updated on our web site. You are the only person authorized to change your email address. Also, be sure that the box in your account for “Allow Email” is checked in order to receive messages.

Our members continually research and publish important works in biblical studies. We are now highlighting these on the IBR web site. You may send to Kenneth Litwak, the IBR web master ([email protected]), information on your major publications within the last twelve months, including journal articles, books, and book chapters, formatted according to the SBL Handbook of Style for bibliographic entries. Updates are welcome as you continue to publish new works. Also, as appropriate, please include your institutional affiliation.
BBR/BBR Sup Update by Rick Hess, BBR/BBR Sup Editor
With its 20th volume, the Bulletin for Biblical Research is now well into its second year of publishing four issues. This has doubled the articles and reviews. With the addition of Gerald Klingbeil as Associate Editor for Old Testament reviews, and with Eckhard Schnabel continuing to oversee the New Testament reviews, we have seen 66 reviews appear in the first two issues of vol. 20. This will provide for the publication of well over a hundred book reviews each year. If you are interested in writing reviews please contact Eckhard or Gerald (their contact information is in each issue of BBR).
The BBR Supplement Series continues to receive monographs for publication. At present our third and fourth volumes are at the publishers. These include a New Testament study by Michael Burer, Divine Sabbath Work; and one from the Old Testament by Knut Heim, Poetic Imagination in Proverbs: Variant Repetitions and the Nature of Poetry. We welcome new proposals and manuscripts by members of the IBR. Submissions of articles and monographs are welcome. See the bulletin inside front and back covers for submission information. For the Supplement series, monograph titles and abstracts may be sent to the editor at [email protected].
