Job description and benefits: 

  • Part-time position (averaging 5-10 hours per week for the 2021-2022 academic year with reduced work in Spring/Summer and substantially increased work in the Fall and Winter)
  • Travel and accommodation for the annual Society of Biblical Literature conference are included
  • Opportunity to connect with internationally renowned evangelical biblical scholars
  • Reporting to the Secretary of the IBR Board
  • Health and dental benefits are not included
  • Salary will be hourly and based upon experience

Candidate characteristics: 

  • Some experience providing administrative assistance would be helpful. Experience providing board-level support would be a plus, although not necessarily a requirement.
  • Familiarity and agreement with the mission and vision of the Institute for Biblical Research and willingness to affirm the IBR’s Statement of Faith
  • Some familiarity with theological education would be helpful (as a student or a staff person for an institution). Not a requirement but it does help to know what kinds of questions to ask or priorities to expect.
  • Possesses a servant-like attitude
  • Is a problem-solver who takes initiative

Key skills/competencies would include:

1. Board and Membership Communication:
  • Ability to communicate professionally with members and board officers via email (and in person), including basic competence with grammar and business writing
  • Ability to work with multiple online platforms, or willingness to learn, including IBR website & membership database (WordPress), membership application program (JotForm), online meeting scheduling (Doodle), email marketing (MailChimp), and electronic surveys (SurveyMonkey). 
  • An interest in learning new technologies, particularly because of the remote nature of the job. Familiarity with video conferencing software. 
2. Information Management: 
  • Competence and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel (or comparable programs), including formatting documents, setting up mail merges, and working with both regular and comma delimited spreadsheets (including running and formatting miscellaneous mailing lists and membership reports)
3. Event Planning: 
  • Some experience with meeting planning (communication with conference & event staff regarding catering arrangements, room set-up, audio-visual needs, etc.)
